Tuesday, Apr. 2, 10 a.m.  AMC Hike, White Memorial, Litchfield (B3C) 

Hike trails around park.  Bring snowshoes if snow.  Meet at Park HQ.  Rt 202 to Bissell Rd, Litchfield.  Storm cancels.  If in doubt, call L by 7-9pm Mon. L Paul Magnuson (426-6719). CL welcome.

Thursday, April 4,  9 a.m., FCE Hike, Sweetheart Mtn., Canton .
  
First meeting at Farmington CPL, Rt. 4 at Town Farm Rd.  Call 860-404-0290 to register for "Course 1301". 
Take Rt. 4 west through Unionville and continue straight onto Rt. 179. At intersection when 179 goes over the river in Collinsville, take a left onto Bridge St., then a right onto Dunne Ave. There is a small lot about 200 yds on the left up a driveway with a sign. L: Marie Coons

Sun., April 7, 1:30 p.m. Sleeping Giant History-of-the-Giant Hike

Meet at the bulletin board at the park entrance.  The Sleeping Giant Park is on Mt. Carmel Avenue in northern Hamden, on the left-hand side, about 0.5 mile in from Whitney Avenue (Rt. 10).  Hikers should wear comfortable, supportive shoes and bring snacks and water.

Tuesday, April 9,  8:45 a.m., "Unofficial" FCE Hike,  Breezy Hill Farm Trail, Canton

Meet at Satan's Kingdom Rec. area parking lot on Rt. 44, New Hartford.  We should complete this 3-mile hike in time to be back to the cars by 11 AM. L: Marie Coons

Thursday, April 11.  8:45 a.m., FCE Hike, Ray Smith Trail, Canton

Follow Rt. 44 west through Avon, into Canton, past Saybrook Fish House, and take a right onto Indian Hill Rd. (this is about the 5th right after Rt.179).  Follow Indian Hill Rd. (even as it curves left) and take a left into the parking area soon after you pass Spaulding Rd. (which is on the right).  This hike is a fairly easy, short, but interesting loop. L: Marie Coons

Saturday, Apr. 13, 10:30 a.m.  AMC Hike, Huntington State Park, Redding (B3C) 

5 - 6 mile loop in park.  Meet at park entrance .5 mile up Sunset Hill Rd from Rt. 58.  L Rob Munro 406-9582.  CL welcome.

Sunday, Apr. 14, 11 a.m.  AMC Hike, Hurd Park & Higganum Meadows (B3B) 

7-8 mi. hike, several good views of CT river, DEP improvements in wildlife mgmt area including man-made ponds for bird resting area along migratory routes.  Steady rain cancels, if in doubt call by 10 AM.  Meet in E. Hampton at Hurd Park entrance on Rt. 151 S of Rt. 66.  L John Cunningham 860-342-4564

Tuesday, April 16,  8:45 a.m., Peoples State Forest, Barkhamsted

Jesse Girard Trail plus hilly loop in Peoples State Forest.  Meet at Marandino's / DunkinDonuts Plaza, New Hartford.(on Rt. 44 on the left after the motels, about a mile beyond Indian Hill Rd.)  Bring a hearty snack, or a sandwich, as this is a bit long.  We will try to get back to the cars by 12:30PM  L: Diana Meyer

Thursday, April 18,  8:45 a.m., FCE Hike, Penwood-Metacomet, Simsbury

Take Rt. 10 north through Avon and into Simsbury.  Take a right onto Rt.185 (by the Chart House) and your first left onto East Weatogue Rd.  Follow this even when it changes its name to Terry's Plain Rd.  Take a right onto Wintonbury Rd. and park up the road at the dead end. We will be hiking a loop with some incline the first mile and a beautiful view. L: Marie Coons

Saturday, Apr. 20, 10 a.m.  SC Hike, MacLean Game Preserve, Granby

Meet at the park entrance parking lot off Route 202/10, for a 4+ mile relaxed hike.  Rain date April 21.  Call Michael Hofmann at 521-6161 for more information.

Sunday, April 21,  9:30 a.m., AMC Hike,  Chatfield Hollow State Park (A2B)

Nine mile hike looping around nearly all the trails in the park.  Polite dogs welcome.  Meet at hikers' parking lot at park entrance on Route 80. Rain cancels.  If doubt, call by 8 a.m. CL: Anne Maio 203-734-3844 and Lynn Reid 203-225-6192.

Monday, April 22,  8:45 a.m., MPR Hike,  White Memorial, Litchfield  POSTPONED 1 WEEK DUE TO SNOW/RAIN/ICE etc.

Meet at the junction of Rts. 61 & 63 in Morris, just south of the Litchfield town line.  Hike will be on the "5 ponds" trail.  Back to cars about 11.  CL: Cindy LaPlaca / Leslie Handelman

Tuesday, April 23,  8:45 a.m., "Unofficial" FCE Hike,  Roraback Wildlife Area, Harwinton

Meet at Burlington Commons at the intersection of Rt. 69 and Rt. 4 in Burlington.  Anticipate an 11:30 AM return to cars. L: Marie Coons

Thursday, April 25,  8:45 a.m., FCE Hike, Ted Wright Trail, Canton

Please try to carpool as parking is limited.  Drive west on Rt. 44 through Avon, take a right onto Rt. 179 north, left onto Barbourtown Rd.  Bear left to stay on this road (very hilly and skinny), take a left onto Breezy Hill Rd. and park where pavement ends.  This hike will provide a variety of terrain (yes, a steep section) and a nice view. Saturday, Apr. 27, 10 a.m.  AMC Hike, Shenipsit Manchester-Glastonbury Loop (B2C) 

6-8 mile loop mostly on the Shenipsit Trail and several connecting woods roads.  Hike includes some stream crossings and one great view of Hartford.  3-4 hrs including a stop for lunch.  Heavy rain cancels, if in doubt call by 9:15 AM.  Meet in Manchester at parking lot by Girl Scout camp on Gardner St.  I384 to exit 4: from W, L at end of ramp, then left at light, then .6 mi to Gardner; from E, left at end of ramp, .3 mi to Gardner.  Both: left onto Gardner, 1.5 mi to GS camp.  L Chuck Sack 860-644-9575, CL Beagsley the Trail Beagle (same phone #)

Sun., April 28, 1:30 p.m. Sleeping Giant Spring Wildflower Hike

Sun., April 28, 1:00 p.m. AMC Hike, Adams Mill & New State Road Trails, Manchester (B3CD)

5 mi. loop along the Hockanum River.  One climb up and down and a trestle crossing.  Scenic views of dams and old mills as you walk along the river.  Rain cancels, if in doubt call by noon.  Meet in Manchester at Cheney Tech pkng. lot near woods.  Use I-84 Exit 60.  Go towards Manchester, at fork bear left, at light turn left.  L Nijole Currie 860-644-3606.

Monday, April 29,  8:45 a.m., MPR Hike,  White Memorial, Litchfield  (Reschedule of hike originally planned for 4/22)

Meet at the junction of Rts. 61 & 63 in Morris, just south of the Litchfield town line.  Hike will be on the "5 ponds" trail.  Easy to Moderate.  Time about 2 hours..  L's: Cindy LaPlaca / Leslie Handelman

Tuesday, April 30,  8:45 a.m., Mattatuck Trail (Daffodils), Litchfield Area

Meet at Burlington Commons, junction of Rt. 4 & Rt 69 in Burlington.  Bring lunch, camera, bug stuff, and lots of water.  We plan to find those blooming daffodils that are so famous and then proceed to spot cars at a couple of places on Rt. 109 and attack another section of the Mattatuck Trail from south to north (between Black Rock State Park and the 5 ponds area in White Memorial).  We'll try to be back at the cars in Burlington by 2:00PM but this is a real guess.  L: Diana Meyer
