The Sleeping Giant Park is on Mt. Carmel Avenue in northern Hamden, on the left-hand side, about 0.5 mile in from Whitney Avenue (Rt. 10). Hikers should wear comfortable, supportive shoes and bring snacks and water Wednesday, August 7, 8:45 a.m. John Muir Trail, Burr Pond - Torrington Meet at Burlington Commons, Rt. 4 & 69. Meet at Tunxis Community College (Rt. 6 & 177). Learn of some new discoveries about the people who lived here and history of Peoples State Forest. About 2 miles and some off trail walking. Meet at the entrance to the Matthies Grove Picnic Area, Peoples State Forest on East River Rd., Barkhamsted. Bring water, insect spray. Allow about 2 hrs. L: Walt Landgraf..
