Sunday, December 1, 1 p.m. AMC Hike, Metacomet Tr. - Talcott Mtn (B2B)

Hike about 5 mi. from Rte. 185 to Rte. 44.  Meet in Reservoir #6 lot on north side of Rte. 44 in W. Hartford.  Heavy rain cancels.  If snow on ground, bring snowshoes!  L Chuck Sack (860-644-9575, happihiker@yahoo.com).

Tuesday, December 3, 8:45 a.m. Tunxis Trail - to Indian Council Caves

About 4.4 miles up and back from Rt. 219 trailhead.  Meet at Marandino's Plaza opposite Satan's Kingdom on Rt. 44.  Bring water and a snack.  And tuck those socks in!  The deer ticks are on us in a minute in the cold weather.  Should be back to the cars by noon-ish.  L: Diana Meyer

Thursday, December 5,  8:45 a.m.,  "Unofficial" FCE Hike, Appalachian Trail, Bear Mt., Salisbury (See change below)

Meet in Marandino's parking lot in New Hartford  (across from Satan's Kingdom) and anticipate a 4:30 PM return to the cars.  L: Marie Coons

This hike has been changed due to weather conditions.  Meet at same place, but we expect to snowshoe on one of the Canton Land Trust trails.  Marie will bring extra snowshoes.  New return time estimate: 11:00 - 11:30.  

Saturday, December 7, 9:00 a.m. AMC Hike, A Taste of Terre Haute (C3B)

A 1.5-2 hour hike to a scenic overlook in an undeveloped area. If snow, bring snowshoes.  Meet at cul-de-sac on Turnage Road off Francis Clarke Circle in Bethel.  Ice storm cancels!  L Mike Cunningham (203-748-7233), CL John O'Neill.

Sunday, December 8, 9:30 a.m. AMC Hike, Bigelow Hollow St. Pk.(B2C)

Hike about 8.5 mi. on a variety of trails & terrain.  Meet at hikers' parking lot, .6 mile inside pk. from entry off Rte. 171.  Steady rain cancels. If doubt, call by 8 AM. L Debbie Tedford (860-742-7673), CL welcome.

Sunday, December 8, 1:30 p.m. Sleeping Giant Holiday Hike & Social

Social and singing at 3 p.m. following hike.  Meet at the bulletin board at the park entrance.  The Sleeping Giant Park is on Mt. Carmel Avenue in northern Hamden, on the left-hand side, about 0.5 mile in from Whitney Avenue (Rt. 10).  Hikers should wear comfortable, supportive shoes and bring snacks and water.

Tuesday, December 10, 8:45 a.m. Roaring Brook Nature Center, Canton

If snow cover continues as expected, we will snowshoe on several of the Nature Center trails.  Meet in Canton Village Shopping Center opposite the main Canton post office.  I think the Shopping Center entrance is 2nd traffic light west of Margarita's Mexican Restaurant on Rt. 44, but look for sign to be sure.  Should be back to the cars by noon.  L: Len Berton

Thursday, December 12,  8:45 a.m.,  "Unofficial" FCE Hike, Regicides Trail, New Haven Cancelled due to dangerous road conditions.

Meet in the commuter parking lot on the corner of Rt 4 and Town Farm Rd. and anticipate a 3:30 PM return time. This hike looks about 7 miles.  L: Marie Coons

Saturday, December 14,  10:30 a.m.,  AMC Hike, Kettletown State Park (B3C)

Walk past river, through woods; stop at beach for lunch, passing Lake Zoar with good views.  Heavy rain cancels; call before 9 a.m. Meet Southbury commuter pkng. lot, exit 14.  From I-84E turn left, lot is on right.  L Nancy Hatsfield (270-3346).

Sunday, December 159:30 a.m.,  AMC Hike, Chatfield Hollow State Park (B3BC)

Explore caves and hike a variety of trails (depending upon conditions).  Meet pkng. lot Chatfield Hollow State Park (1 mi. W jct. Rts. 80 & 81). Snow, rain or hazardous driving cancels; if doubt call before 8 a.m.  L Bill Novoa (860-677-7520). CL welcome.

Tuesday, December 17, 8:45 a.m. Leader's Choice ????

Meet at Border's parking lot, Simsbury, and then we'll find out where we're going.  The weather and trail conditions will be a factor in the decision.  Snowshoes if we have snow cover.  Return to cars about 11:30. [We did a new trail in the Canton Land Trust properties.] L: Marie Coons 

Saturday, December 21,  10:00 a.m.,  AMC Hike, McLean Game Refuge (C3D)

Winter Solstice at private nature area covering a small range of rocky hills.  4 mi. hike on Blue Loop trail & Barn Door Summit trail.  Bring lunch. Meet main entr., Rts. 10 & 202, Granby.  Cancel if steady precip. or icy roads, or snow cover 1 - 4".  Snowshoe if snow cover over 4".  If doubt call by 9 a.m.  L Jim Linnane (860-738-0273 jalinnane738@earthlink.net), CL welcome.

Meet on Mountain Spring Rd., near Rt. 4, adjacent to fish hatchery.  Turn S off Rt. 4 about 1/4 mile W of Punch Brook blinker.  Snow shoes recommended.  Return to cars about 11:30.  L: Len Berton
