Saturday, June 1, 9 a.m. PSF National Trails Day Hike

Meet at the entrance to the Matthies Grove Picnic Area, Peoples State Forest on East River Rd.  Bring water, insect spray, and lunch. Allow 5 hours for approx. 8 mile walk over uneven ground, some steep areas.  L: Walt Landgraf

Sunday, June 2, 1:30 p.m. Sleeping Giant HIKE-A-GIANT 2002 Hike

Meet at the bulletin board at the park entrance.  The Sleeping Giant Park is on Mt. Carmel Avenue in northern Hamden, on the left-hand side, about 0.5 mile in from Whitney Avenue (Rt. 10).  Hikers should wear comfortable, supportive shoes and bring snacks and water

Monday, June 3,  8:30 a.m., MPR Hike,  Mile of Ledges - Tunxis Trail, Burlington

Meet at the CPL (junction Rts. 8 & 118) in Litchfield, or at Burlington Commons (junction Rts. 4 & 69) at 8:45.  Tucked in the woods in Burlington is a series of enormous ledges, cleft rocks and boulders.  We'll go around, over and through some of them on this fun hike.  This is an Adventure!  Moderate.  Time about 2 hours.  L's: Cindy LaPlaca / Leslie Handelman

Meet in front of Border's bookstore, Simsbury Commons, just north of Rt. 44/Rt. 167 junction. L: Diana Meyer.

Thursday, June 6,  8:45 a.m. "Unofficial" FCE Hike,  AT - Falls Village

Due to weather conditions/forecasts for western Litchfield County, we will switch to a shorter and closer hike today.  Same meeting time/place.  We went to Roraback Wildlife Area in Harwinton instead and had a nice hike.  The A.T. hike originally scheduled for today has been rescheduled for next week -- Thursday June 13..
Meet at Burlington Commons, and if all goes well, we should return by 5 PM.  This hike will start on West Cornwall Rd. and head north to Falls Village.  This will be a long hike (7.5 miles) but not too difficult.  The book describes views with a few steep sections and level ridge-top walking.  Bring plenty of food and water.  L: Marie Coons

Saturday, June 8, 10 a.m. AMC Hike, Macedonia Ridge Loop (B2C)

6.8 mi. loop.  Views.  Heavy rain cancels.  If doubt, call by 9 AM.  Meet at bridge near trailhead, 0.6 mi. inside park.  Rte.7 to Kent; Rte. 341 W. 1 mi. to Bridge St. to Macedonia Road into Macedonia St. Park.  L. Pete Herrmann (860-523-9064) CL. Beth Critton (860-523-5555).

Sunday, June 9, 10 a.m. AMC Hike, Miller's Pond St. Pk. Durham (C3B/C)

Monday, June 10,  8:15 a.m., MPR Hike,  Candlewood Mt., New Milford

Meet at the Morris town hall.  This hike includes some steep terrain, a vice view of the valley and the Housatonic River.  Challenge yourself!  Moderate to strenuous.  Time about 2 hours.  L's: Cindy LaPlaca / Leslie Handelman

Tuesday, June 11,  8:45 a.m.  Hedgehog Trail, West Simsbury 

Meet at Borders in Simsbury Commons.  Expect return to cars by 12:30PM  Bring water & bug stuff.  L: Diana Meyer.

Thursday, June 13,  8:45 a.m.  "Unofficial" FCE Hike, AT - Falls Village (reschedule of June 6 weather postponement)

Sunday, June 16, 10:00 a.m. AMC Hike, Devil's Hopyard St. Pk. (B2B)

Double loop hike with ice cream stop after.  Steady rain cancels.  If doubt, call by 9 AM.  Meet East Haddam. I-95 Exit 70, Rte. 156 to end. R on Rte. 82, follow signs to park.  Chapman Falls Pkng. Lot, 2nd lot on right.  L. Deb Sevieri (860-434-5036).

Monday, June 17,  8:00 a.m., "Unofficial" MPR Hike,  Mount Greylock,  Adams, Massachusetts [Greylock was too far away, so we did Mt. Everett instead -- nice!]
Meet at Litchfield Stop&Shop.  Optional stops for lunch and Guido's gourmet market after the hike are planned  -- you can follow with your own car (or possible alternate carpool) if you want to return directly after the hike.  L's: Cindy LaPlaca / Leslie Handelman

Tuesday, June 18,  8:45 a.m.  Metacomet Trail, Plainville

We'll head north from Rt. 372 toward Pinnacle Rock and back.  Meet at the Plainville Big Y Supermarket on Rt. 372.  We'll carpool the short distance to the start.  Bug stuff & water.  Back to the cars by 12:30PM  L: Diana Meyer.

Sunday, June 23, 9:30 a.m. AMC Hike, Salmon River/Day Pond (B2C)

8+ mi. loop hike in state forest, stopping at Day Pond.  Steady rain cancels.  If doubt, call by 8 AM. Meet East Hampton, Comstock Covered Bridge, Rte. 16 3.1 mi. E of jct. Rte.196 in E. Hampton.  L. Debbie Tedford (860-742-7673).

Monday, June 24,  8:30 a.m., MPR Hike,  Mohawk Mt., Cornwall (Rescheduled from May 13 rainout)

Starting at Mohawk Pond.  Meet at the Litchfield Stop & Shop.  A steady, although not steep climb to the fire tower at the top of the mountain.  Great views of the valley especially from the top of the tower.  Moderate.  Time about 2 hours.  L's: Cindy LaPlaca / Leslie Handelman

Saturday, June 29, 9:30 a.m. SC Hike,  Tunxis Trail: Hemenway Lookout, Mile of Ledges, and Tory Den, Burlington

The Blue Book calls this "the roughest section of the Tunxis Trail."  About 5 miles one-way at a moderate pace, with some fairly steep ups and downs, and a few rock scrambles and narrow passages.  The scenery is spectacular.  Meet at Sessions Woods, Burlington, Rt.69, 3.4 miles south of Rt. 4.  Bring bug spray, water, snacks and/or lunch, and wear sturdy boots.   [Several hikers needed to park at the destination: please call or email to volunteer to meet me at Sessions Woods at 9:00.]  L: Len Berton, (860)675-7312 or berton@gtcinternet.com.  If in doubt about weather, call between 7 & 8 that morning.  Rain date June 30.
