Sunday, September 1, 9:00 a.m. PSF Upper Beaver Meadow Hike

Explore old mill sites, clay beds, and farm sites.  About 2 miles of off trail hiking.  Meet at the entrance to the Matthies Grove Picnic Area, Peoples State Forest on East River Rd., Barkhamsted.  Bring water, insect spray.  Allow about 2 hrs.  L: Walt Landgraf..

Meet at Borders (Simsbury) just north of the junction of Rt. 44 and Rt. 167.  Anticipate being back to the cars by noon, maybe even earlier.  L: Marie Coons

Saturday, September 7, 9:30 a.m.  AMC Hike, Bigelow Hollow Area Loop, Walker Mtn. (B3C)

Hike mainly on old cart paths past old homestead & graveyard. Bring lunch, liquid, proper clothing. Hiking boots required. Meet Cumberland Farms Rtes. 44 & 89, Ashford. Pkng. Meet at the bulletin board at the park entrance.  The Sleeping Giant Park is on Mt. Carmel Avenue in northern Hamden, on the left-hand side, about 0.5 mile in from Whitney Avenue (Rt. 10).  Hikers should wear comfortable, supportive shoes and bring snacks and water

Sunday, September 15, 9:00 a.m.  PSF Hike, Pennwood State Park, Bloomfield 

This hike covers trap rock ridges with outstanding overlooks, passes by a bog, and through interesting plant ecosystems.  Meet at the entrance to the Matthies Grove Picnic Area, Peoples State Forest on East River Rd.  Bring water, insect spray, snack and allow 4 hours for this hike of about 4.5 miles with some up and down sections but nothing very steep.  Steady rain cancels.  L: Walt Landgraf

This hike visits waterfalls, old foundations, and beautiful natural areas.  Meet at the entrance to the Matthies Grove Picnic Area, Peoples State Forest on East River Rd.  Bring water, insect spray, snack and allow about 3.5 hours for this hike of about 4 miles with some up and down sections but nothing very steep.  Steady rain cancels.  L: Walt Landgraf

Sunday, September 22, 10:45 a.m.  AMC Hike, Mattabessett Trail (Rte. 68 in Wallingford to Rte. 66, Meriden) (B3BC)

Climb Beseck Mtn, hike along the ridge top. Great view of the "Hanging Hills" of Meriden & Black Pond. Hike may be used to complete your Mattabessett Thru Hike. Joint w/ Westport Singles Hiking Group. Join us for good, inexpensive Italian food after the hike. Meet  Burger King in Meriden, I-91 or Rte. 15 to East Main St. exit and go W toward Meriden. Meet in the lot by Borders in Simsbury. Anticipate a 1:30 PM return to Borders.  L: Marie Coons

Thursday, September 26,  9 a.m., FCE Hikes Begin, Sweetheart Mt., Collinsville

First meeting at Farmington CPL, Rt. 4 at Town Farm Rd.  Call 860-404-0290 and specify "Course 02F1301" to register for this series of 8 official hikes + ?? "unofficials".  Take Rt. 4 west through Unionville and continue straight onto Rt 179. At intersection when 179 goes over the river in Collinsville, take a left onto Bridge St., then a right onto Dunne Av. There is a small lot about 200 yds on the left up a driveway by a sign.  L: Marie Coons

Sunday, September 29, 8:30 a.m., PSF Hike, Bear Mountain and Sages Ravine, AT, Salisbury

This hike visits waterfalls, ravines, vistas, and interesting ecosystems.  Meet at the entrance to the Matthies Grove Picnic Area, Peoples State Forest on East River Rd.  Bring water, insect spray, lunch, and allow about 8 hours for this hike of about 6.5 miles, with some steep up and down sections.  We plan to return to Peoples about 4:30 p.m.  Steady rain cancels.  L: Walt Landgraf
