Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, 1:30 p.m. Sleeping Giant New Year's Day Hike

Start the new year "on the right foot!"  Meet at the bulletin board at the park entrance.  The Sleeping Giant Park is on Mt. Carmel Avenue in northern Hamden, on the left-hand side, about 0.5 mile in from Whitney Avenue (Rt. 10).  Hikers should wear comfortable, supportive shoes and bring snacks and water

Sunday, January 5, 2003,  9:00 a.m.,  AMC Hike, Jump Hill and Trout Brook Valley (B2B)

Tuesday, January 7, 2003,  8:45 a.m.,  "Unofficial" FCE Hike, Sessions Woods, Burlington 

First hike of snowshoe series.  Meet in Sessions Woods parking lot, Rt. 69, 3.5 miles S of Rt. 4.  Back to cars about 11am.  L: Marie Coons

Saturday, January 11, 2003,  1 p.m.,  AMC Hike, Hammonasset Beach Ramble (C3C)

Hike #2 of Winter Beach Tour.  3 mi., 30 ft. elevation gain.  Bring water, lunch.  See extensive salt marshes, diverse flora & fauna, picturesque rocky shoreline, views of the Sound, nature trail, birding area, Meigs Point, Cedar Island.  Meet at Meigs Point Nature Center in Madison, I95 exit 62 S onto Hammonasset Beach State Park connector, .3 mi. beyond Rt 1 is park entrance, from entrance follow signs to parking area adjacent to Meigs Point Nature Center.  Snow(not flurries)/ice/freezing rain cancels, if doubt call L by 10 a.m. L Jenifer Nadeau (860-742-7203); CL welcome.

Meet at the Meadows parking lot on Old Farms Rd. just W of Rt. 10, and return to cars by 11:30 am.  L: Diana Meyer

Saturday, January 18, 2003,  10:30 a.m,  AMC Hike, Gay City  (B3C)

Pleasant woodland hike.  Snowshoe if there is enough snow.  Optional pizza stop after hike.  Meet at Park entrance on Rt. 85 in Hebron.  Rain/snow cancels; if doubt call L by 9:30 a.m. L Carolyn Olsen (860-569-2149); CL welcome.

Sunday, January 19, 2003,  Noon,  AMC Hike, Saugatuck Reservoir Trail (Redding) (B2B)

Great views of Saugatuck reservoir as we head south to north.  Meet behind Redding Rd. House on Rt. 53 just north of jct. with Rt. 107.  Rain/ice cancels.  If deep snow, we'll X-C ski.  Possible dinner after in Redding Rd. House.  L Eric Stones (203-797-9175); CL welcome.

Thursday, January 23, 2003,  8:45 a.m., Tunxis White-dot Trail, Burlington Cancelled due to extreme cold.

Meet on Mountain Spring Rd., near Rt. 4, adjacent to fish hatchery.  Turn S off Rt. 4 about 1/2 mile W of Punch Brook Rd. blinker.  Snow shoes recommended.  Return to cars about 11:30.  L: Len Berton

Saturday, January 25, 2003,  1:30 p.m.,  AMC Hike, Salmon River Trail (C3C)

4 mile loop with brief stops at waterfall & Salmon River.  Pizza stop after hike.  Meet at entrance to Day Pond State Park in Colchester.  Bad weather, deep snow or extreme cold cancels; if doubt call L by 12:45 p.m.  L Steve Braciak (860-267-4371).

Sparkling falls and a visit to Mark Twain's old stomping grounds.  Meet at John Read Middle School in Redding, Rt 53, 2 miles north of Rt 107 jct.  Bad weather does not cancel; if doubt call L by 8:30 a.m. L Al Puches (203-544-9083).
