Sunday, June 1, 10:00 a.m.,  AMC Hike, Totally Tunxis (B3C)

6th in series to cover extensive Tunxis Trail system. Hike approx. 6 miles on Mainline, Black Dot, and Sessions Woods Trails from Marsh Road in Bristol to Rte. 69 in Burlington. Mile of Ledges, Heminway Lookout and possible waterfall. Potential post-hike-surprise. Call leader for meeting place. Group size is limited. Rain or extreme heat/humidity cancels. Sunday, June 1, 12:40 p.m., Rattlesnake Mtn./Hospital Rock History Hike postponed to June 8 due to weather

The Stanley-Whitman House, a living-history center in Farmington, has scheduled this history hike of about 3 hrs.  Participants will ascend Rattlesnake Mountain in search of Hospital Rock, where smallpox patients carved initials on the rocks when they were confined to a hospital during the 1792-94 period.  Meet at the museum (37 High St., Farmington) and drive together to the trail.  This will be a challenging hike for adults and older children.  The cost is $3 per person - registration required.  For more information call Peter Devlin, museum interpreter, at 860-677-9222.

Tuesday, June 3, 8:45 a.m., Black-dot Tunxis

About 5 miles on pleasant cliff-bordered trail from Barnes Nature Center to Sessions Woods.  Start along pretty stream, and then lots of rocky terrain similar to Mile of Ledges, but not as challenging.  Possibly check out Nature Center side trail.  Bring water and snacks, and bug spray a good idea.  Meet at Sessions Woods: 3+ miles S of Rt. 4 on Rt. 69, Burlington, not far N of the Bristol line.  Back to cars about 1 pm.  L: Len Berton

Thursday, June 5, 8:45 a.m., "Unofficial" FCE Hike, AT Sages Ravine

We will continue our trek north on the AT. Expect about 7.5 miles. Meet at the lot in front of Marandino’s in New Hartford-take Rt 44 west through Avon, Canton, and after crossing the Farmington River into New Hartford, Marandino’s is on the left diagonally across from Satan’s Kingdom.   Return to cars about 4:30.  L: Marie Coons

Saturday, June 7, 9:00 a.m.,  PSF National Trails Day Hike

Approx. 7 miles at a relaxed pace.  There will be some steep up and down hill sections.  Celebrating Connecticut's 100th Anniversary of Forestry, sponsored by Connecticut Forest & Park Association (CFPA) and the Stone Museum.  Discover the history of Peoples State Forest and the people for whom the trails are named.  We will visit Native American sites, colonial sites, and sample the rich natural history of the forest.  Meet at the entrance to the Matthies Grove Recreation Area, Peoples State Forest, East River Road, Pleasant Valley.  Carpool 1 mile to trail head. Seventh in series to cover extensive Tunxis Trail System. Hike approx. 5 mi. in Burlington/Bristol from Shrub Rd. to Route 69 via Black Dot and Mainline trs. Visit Great Wall and Avenue of Ledges. Hike will leave from the bulletin board at the park entrance.  The Sleeping Giant Park is on Mt. Carmel Avenue in northern Hamden, about 0.5 mile in from Whitney Avenue, on the left-hand side of the street.  Hikers should wear comfortable, supportive shoes and bring snacks and water, as desired.  Please do not bring pets.  The hike is open to the public, and there is no fee.

Tuesday, June 10, 8:45 a.m., Tunxis - Nepaug Region

About 6 miles on main line Tunxis with side trip on Tipping Rock and Valley Outlook trails.  Bring water and snacks, and bug spray a good idea.  Meet at Satan's Kingdom parking lot on Rt. 44, New Hartford, across from Marandino's market..  Back to cars about 1:30.  L: Len Berton

Expect to do about 5 miles starting on Jessie Gerard trail (with three beautiful lookouts), then onto Charles Pack, Agnes Bowen down to Elliot Bronson trail to our carspot.  Bring water and snacks, and bug spray a good idea.  Meet at Satan's Kingdom parking lot on Rt. 44, New Hartford, across from Marandino's market to carpool.  Back to cars about 1:30.  L: Len Berton

Double loop hike with shorter option. Possible ice cream stop after. Meet in East Haddam at Chapman Falls PL. From I-95 Exit 70, right onto Route 156 W. Follow to end. Right onto Route 82. Tuesday, June 17, 8:45 a.m., Tunxis - Burlington Loop

About 5 miles on main line, red & purple-dot Tunxis.  Due to the housing project, we'll probably need the GPS to find our way near the GW Turnpike.  Bring water and snacks, and bug spray a good idea.  Meet on Ryan's Way.  Turn S off Rt. 4 onto Punch Brook Rd., which is about 0.5 mile W of Rt. 179 traffic light.  Ryan's Way is 2nd right.  Back to cars about noon.  L: Len Berton

Thursday, June 19, 8:45 a.m., "Unofficial" FCE Hike, M-M Trail, Holyoke, MA  (previously June 12)

Meet at Sperry Park off Rt. 10 just north of the old Towpath School in Avon (enter at light for the Avon Wellness Center and take a right) for this 6 mile hike. Park next to the baseball fields a short distance up the road from the 1st parking lot.  We should return to the cars by 4:30 pm.  L: Marie Coons

Wednesday, June 25, 8:45 a.m., Hanging Hills of Meriden

East Peak/Castle Craig and West Peak.  Meet at Big Y in Plainville and carpool to Hubbard Park.  Up the white blazed trail to Castle Craig. Then west on the Metacomet blue trail to West Peak (with all its towers) to Sunset Rock.  Then back toward Castle Craig and descend down the rubble-y rocks on the white trail back to the cars. Bring lunch and water.  Expected return to cars around 2:30PM  L: Diana Meyer

Friday, June 27, 8:45 a.m., Tunxis - Burlington Loop #2

About 6 miles on main line, white, green & purple-dot Tunxis.  Mostly easy but a couple of steep and rocky sections.  Bring water and snacks, and bug spray a good idea.  Meet on Mountain Spring Rd. in Burlington.  Turn S off Rt. 4 about 1.3 miles W of Rt. 179 traffic light and park on side of road.  Back to cars about 12:30.  L: Len Berton

Saturday, June 28, 9:00 a.m.,  AMC Hike, Macedonia Brook State Park (B3AB). 

Hike blue loop trail. About 6 mi. (10 KM). One steep scramble. Ice cream afterwards. Limited parking at trail head. Meet CPL off Rte.118, W (Litchfield NOT Harwinton) side of exit 42, Rte. 8.
