Saturday November 1, 9:15 am, AMC Hike, Sleeping Giant State Park, Hamden CT.(B2/3B)

Aprox 8 mile loop on blue and white trails with lots of ups and downs and some scrambling.  Forecast is good and the leaves should be spectacular.  Meet in Sleeping Giant State Park main parking lot for 9.30am start. Parking fee will probably be required.  Take Rte 10 Mt Carmel Avenue to Hamden. Look for signs for Sleeping Giant SP and Quinnipiac University. Turn into Mt Carmel Avenue and go 0.1 mile to parking lot on the left across from Quinnipiac University entrance.  Rain cancels  L : David Roberts (203-323-2762) or drossr@aol.com  CL welcome

Sunday, November 2, 2003,  11:00 a.m.,  SG Hike, Fall Hikers' Hike  EXPERIENCED HIKERS ONLY!

A strenuous hike over rough terrain.  Hike will leave from the bulletin board at the park entrance.  The Sleeping Giant Park is on Mt. Carmel Avenue in northern Hamden, about 0.5 mile in from Whitney Avenue, on the left-hand side of the street.  Hikers should wear comfortable, supportive shoes and bring snacks and water, as desired.  Please do not bring pets.  The hike is open to the public, and there is no fee.

Tuesday, Nov. 4, 8:30 a.m., Unofficial FCE Hike,  AT in MA

Meet at Satan's Kingdom parking lot off Rt 44 in New Hartford and anticipate a 4:30 pm return time. We will continue our trek north on this famous trail.  L: Marie Coons

Thursday, Nov. 6, 8:45 a.m.  FCE Hike, Beseck Mountain-Mattabesett Trail, Meriden-Middlefield

Get on Rt 9 south to Rt 15 south to the East Main St. exit in Meriden. Take a left (east) onto East Main St. and follow to the public boat launch area on Black Pond (on the right). If you pass the intersection with Rt 66, you have gone too far. The view of the pond from this trap rock ridge is breathtaking.    L: Marie Coons

Saturday, November 8, 9:30 am, AMC Hike, CFPA Metacomet Hike (B2A)

Join a CFPA-sponsored hike on premier Metacomet Trail; hike entire trail this year and win Metacomet Badge. Hike 6 miles from Rt. 71 to Rt. 364. See spectacular vistas from West Peak and Castle Craig. Meet at Timberline Golf Course on Rt. 364 Southington Rd. - rear parking lot. From Meriden I-69, go N on Rt. 71 then w on Rt. 364 to Timberline. Heavy rain cancels. If doubt, call leader by: 8:30 AM. L: George Arthur (860-871-0137), CL Joe King .

Sunday, November 9, 12:30 pm, AMC Hike, Totally Tunxis 11 (C3B)

11th in series of hikes to cover extensive Tunxis Trail system. Short hike of about 3 miles, but with some steep sections via Compounce Cascade, Compounce Ridge and Steep Climb Trails near Lake Compounce in Bristol/Southington. Excellent views. Tuesday, Nov. 11, 8:00 a.m., Unofficial FCE Hike,  AT in MA   (Note earlier start time -- it gets dark early this time of year)

Meet at Satan's Kingdom parking lot off Rt 44 in New Hartford and anticipate a 4:30 pm return time. We will continue our trek north on this famous trail.  The hike today will be about 7.5 miles of mostly flat terrain with many wet areas.  L: Marie Coons

Thursday, Nov. 13, 8:45 a.m.  FCE Hike, Huckleberry Hill-Found Land, Avon PICNIC

Take Rt 177 (Lovely St.) north into Avon, soon after the intersection with Country Club Rd., take a left onto Northgate, follow this up the hill and take a right onto Northington Dr., follow this until the pavement ends and park in the lot on the left. 

After the hike we will have an indoor picnic at Diane Vigneau's home in Canton.  Directions will be provided.  If you have not yet signed up on the "What I'm Bringing" list, please call (673-5906) or email Marie asap.  The group is grateful to Diane for again volunteering her lovely home.

Saturday, November 15, 9:45 am, AMC Hike, Adams Mill and New State Rd. Hockanum River trails. (B3C) 

Six miles. Scenic woodland trails partially along river's edge. Take exit 60 from I-84. At exit turn toward Manchester. Proceed a few hundred feet and park on the right near Laurel Marsh sign. Rain cancels. No dogs please. If in doubt call by 9 a.m. L: Barry Resnick (860-649-7894).

Sunday, November 16, 8:00 a.m., AMC Hike, AT in Sharon, CT (B2/3B)

Early start, early finish (12:00). Hike up Breadloaf Mountain to the AT and then north to Pine Knob Mountain. Do the 1.7 mile Pine Knob Loop Trail and then return to Breadloaf and the cars. We will take a long break at the midpoint for brunch and a bask in the sun on the open, eastward facing ledges on Pine Mountain. Although this is a relatively short (6.1 miles) hike, it is strenuous (terrain and speed). There is over 2000 ft of elevation gain and the pace will be brisk (2/3). Meet at the Breadloaf Mountain parking area in Cornwall Bridge at the junction of RT 7 and RT 4. The large lot is on the left side of RT 7 immediately after crossing the bridge over the Housatonic. Tuesday, Nov. 18, 8:00 a.m., Unofficial FCE Hike,  AT in MA  (Note earlier start time -- it gets dark early this time of year)

Meet at Satan's Kingdom parking lot off Rt 44 in New Hartford and anticipate a 4:30 pm return time. We will continue our trek north on this famous trail.  This hike will be just under 8 miles and will include a variety of terrain of easy to moderate difficulty.  L: Marie Coons

Thursday, Nov. 20, 8:45 a.m., Unofficial FCE Hike,  Onion Mt., Simsbury  cancelled due to heavy rain and slippery conditions

Meet in the parking lot of Onion Mt. From Farmington, take 167 north and just after the intersection with Rt 44, take a left on West Mountain Rd. and follow about 3-4 miles to Onion Mt. sign on your left. (Soon after Quorn Hunt Rd.) We will see a beautiful view. Anticipate an 11 am return time.  L: Marie Coons

Saturday, November 22, 10:00 am, AMC Hike, CFPA Mattabessett Hike – Seven Falls & Bear Hill (B2BC). 

Multi-loop hike about 7.5 mi.on Mattabessett with return on alternate trails. Use toward CFPA patch for Mattabessett Trail. About 4 hrs with lunch break. Contact leader for meeting place. Tuesday, Nov. 25, 8:00 a.m., Unofficial FCE Hike,  AT: Beartown State Forest to Tyringham, MA  (Note earlier start time -- it gets dark early this time of year)

Meet in the parking lot at Marandino's on Rt. 44 in New Hartford. We will carpool to the hike and do a car spot so anticipate about an 8 mile trek and a 5 pm return to the cars. If the weather is very cold or some other extreme, we will most likely shorten the distance, but still try to get the hike in.  L: Marie Coons

Thursday, November 27 (Thanksgiving), 10:00 am, AMC Hike, Saugatuck Falls Trail, Redding (C3BC)

An easy paced hike of about 4 miles and 2 hours to Saugatuck Falls via the old field trail. Meet at the John Read Middle School on Route 53 in Redding about 3 miles from the Bethel line and 3 miles from the Weston line. Rain cancels. Leader: Dave Cronin 203-438-2978
