Thursday, Oct. 2, 8:45 a.m.  FCE Hike, Metacomet Trail, Plainville

From the center of Farmington, follow Rt 10 south, bear left at the "Y" in the road onto Cooke St., take a left onto Rt 372, turn right into the shopping plaza and park in front of the Levitz furniture store on the east side near Crooked St. We will hike north on the Metacomet Trail to the Pinnacle Rock view.  L: Marie Coons

Saturday, October 4. 9:15 AM, AMC Hike, Salmon River Trail (B3C). 

Hike 7 mi. thru Salmon River State Forest. Brief stop at cascading waterfall. Lunch at Day Pond State Park. Meet Comstock Covered Bridge parking lot, Jct. Route 16 and Salmon R. Bad weather cancels. If doubt, call leader by 8:45 AM. L: Steve Braciak (860-267-4371).

Sunday, October 5. 9 am, AMC Hike, Salmon River Trail (B2B)

Hike 7-8 mi. on Salmon River trail with scenic overlook, old settlement foundations, streams, pond, forest trails. Lunch at Day Pond State Park. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 8:45 a.m.  White Memorial, Litchfield

A pleasant stroll on the 1.6 mile boardwalk, and some adjacent trails.  Meet at Burlington Commons (intersection of Rts 4 and 69) to carpool. We will start at Headquarters bldg. off  Rt 202 in Litchfield. Anticipate a 1 pm return time.   L: Len Berton

Thursday, Oct. 9, 8:45 a.m. FCE Hike, Sessions Woods, Burlington

Take Rt 4 west through Unionville and up the hill into Burlington. In the center of Burlington, take a left onto Rt 69 south and travel a few miles to Sessions Woods. The sign is on the right and the parking lot is up the hill on the left. We will hike some of the Tunxis Trail that surrounds this area.    L: Marie Coons

Saturday, October 11. 9:30 am, AMC Hike, Fifty Foot to the Hollow (B3C). 

With Friends of Mansfield Hollow (FMH) as part of area's Walking Weekend, hike from top of Spring Hill to Mansfield Hollow State Park following Nipmuck Tr. past Fifty Foot Lookout and around Ski Tr. Good views in high foliage season. See work of CFPA, NEMBA and AMC crews (all the same people!) in relocation of trail. Meet picnic area in Mansfield Hollow State Park, E on Basset Bridge Rd. off Route 195, Mansfield Center. Will car spot. Rain cancels. Rain Date: Monday October 13. If doubt, call leader by 8:30 am. Sunday, October 12, 2003,  1:30 p.m.,  SG Hike, East End (new & different trails)

Hike will leave from the bulletin board at the park entrance.  The Sleeping Giant Park is on Mt. Carmel Avenue in northern Hamden, about 0.5 mile in from Whitney Avenue, on the left-hand side of the street.  Hikers should wear comfortable, supportive shoes and bring snacks and water, as desired.  Please do not bring pets.  The hike is open to the public, and there is no fee.

Tuesday, Oct. 14, 8:45 a.m.  Tunxis Trail, Barkhamsted/Hartland

4.4 miles up and back on the Tunxis Trail to Indian Council Caves.  Meet at Marandino's Market in New Hartford - on Rt. 44 opposite Satan's Kingdom parking lot.  Expect to be back to the cars around 12:30, but suggest bringing a healthy snack/lunch. L: Diana Meyer

Thursday, Oct. 16, 8:45 a.m.  FCE Hike, Heublein Tower, Simsbury

Meet at Reservoir No. 6 off Rt 44 in West Hartford. Take Rt 10 north to Avon, take a right onto Rt 44 east, go up Avon Mt., take a left into the Reservoir 6 entrance and park in this first lot. We will hike the Metacomet Trail from this lot to the tower. Today we might be back to the cars later than 11 am.    L: Marie Coons

Saturday, October 18. 9 AM, AMC Hike, Bigelow Pond Loop and Mashapaug Pond View Trails (B3C). 

Moderate 7+ mi around scenic but rocky Bigelow Pond Loop Trail and then hike the Mashapaug Pond View Trail. Swimming if you want to after the hike. Meet Bigelow Hollow State Park, first picnic parking lot on left 0.7 mi from entrance. From I-84 take exit 73, east on Route 190 thru Union to Route 171 east to Bigelow Hollow State Park entrance. Saturday, October 18. 10 AM, SC Hike, "Fall Foliage"

Pass Seven Falls Park on the Bear Hill Loop Trail near Haddam.  We'll go past brooks and view-points 7.5 miles at a medium pace.  Bring boots, lunch, water. Rain-date Oct. 19, same time/place.  Take I-91 S. onto Rt. 9 S. to exit 10. Turn R. onto Rt. 154. Go 0.8 miles to tiny road-side park driveway on L.  L: Ken Selling, (860)-344-9774

9th in series of hikes to cover extensive Tunxis Trail system. Primarily woodland 6 mi. loop hike on Mainline, White Dot and Green Dot Trails. Meet at Burlington Commons Shopping Center at Jct. 4 and 69 in Burlington. Potential post-hike surprise. Rain cancels. If in doubt, call leader by 8:15 AM. Following Annual Meeting of Sleeping Giant Park Association.  Hike will leave from the bulletin board at the park entrance.  The Sleeping Giant Park is on Mt. Carmel Avenue in northern Hamden, about 0.5 mile in from Whitney Avenue, on the left-hand side of the street.  Hikers should wear comfortable, supportive shoes and bring snacks and water, as desired.  Please do not bring pets.  The hike is open to the public, and there is no fee.

Tuesday, Oct. 21, 8:45 a.m., Unofficial  FCE Hike,  Sweetheart Mt., Collinsville

Short but sweet (and steep) with an added bonus of a view. Meet near the corner of Main St. and Front St. in the lot by the rails-for-trails in Collinsville. (Follow Rt 4 west through Unionville, to Rt 179 north, take a right over the Farmington River bridge, and right onto Front St.) Anticipate an 11 am return time.   L: Marie Coons

Thursday, Oct. 23, 8:45 a.m.  FCE Hike, Tunxis Trail, Barkhamsted

Follow Rt 44 west through Canton and New Hartford, take a right onto Rt 219 and follow until you see the parking area on the right just before Ratlum Rd. Our view today will be of Lake McDonough and the Barkhamsted Reservoir.    L: Marie Coons

Sunday, October 26. 10AM, AMC Hike, Totally Tunxis 10 (B3C). 

10th in series of hikes to cover extensive Tunxis Trail system. Loop hike of approx. 7 miles in Satan's Kingdom utilizing Mainline, Tipping Rock, Valley Outlook and Shelter Four Trails. Potential post-hike surprise. Meet at Satan's Kingdom Recreation Area on Route 44 in New Hartford. Entrance about 0.2 miles after Route 44 crosses to W Side of Farmington River. Rain cancels. Tuesday, Oct. 28, 8:30 a.m., Unofficial  FCE Hike,  AT, Sages Ravine, MA

Meet at Satan's Kingdom parking lot off Rt 44 in New Hartford and anticipate a 4:30 pm return time. We will continue our trek north on this famous trail.   L: Marie Coons

Thursday, Oct. 30, 8:45 a.m.  FCE Hike, Canton Land Trust, Charlotte Craig and Ted Wright Trails, Canton

Follow Rt 44 west to Canton, take a right onto Rt 179 north, a left onto Barbourtown Rd. (very skinny and curvy), and follow it until it intersects with Breezy Hill Rd. Take a left onto Breezy Hill Rd. and park just before the road becomes unpaved. We will get two viewing spots on this beautiful hike.    L: Marie Coons
