Saturday, May 1, 9:00 a.m., PSF, Flower Walk
on the Henry Buck Trail
Learn about unique natural history of local plants as well as their Native
American and folk uses. Approximately 2 hour program. Less than a mile at
an easy pace. Meet at the entrance to the Matthies Grove Recreation Area,
Peoples State Forest, East River Road.

May 2, 8:00 am, SGH, Early Bird Watchers’ Hike
Meet at the bulletin board at the park entrance. The Sleeping Giant Park is
on Mt. Carmel Avenue in northern Hamden, on the left-hand side, about ¼ mile in
from Whitney Avenue (Rt. 10). Hikers should wear comfortable, supportive shoes
and bring snacks and water, as desired and dress for the weather. Please do not
bring pets. The hikes are open to the public, and there is no fee. CL: Ham

"Unofficial", AT Beckett, MA to Washington, MA
Meet at Marandino's (RT 44 New Hartford across from Satan's Kingdom) and we
should return by 3 pm from this 6 mile hike. Anticipate some wet areas on this
hike.. L:

8:45 a.m., FCE Hike,
Tunxis Trail-Multi-colored loop, Burlington
We will start on Cornwall Rd. in Burlington. From Farmington, follow RT 4 west
through Unionville, left staying on RT 4 up the hill towards Burlington, left
onto Belden Rd., right onto George Washington Tpke., and a left onto Cornwall
Rd. Follow Cornwall until the end and park here. L:

Hike, Spring Wildflower Walk in
Peoples State Forest
Meet at the parking lot at the main entrance on East River Road, Pleasant
Valley. Enjoy the early woodland flowers now warmed by the spring sun
while trees are still bare. The woodland flowers are the first to break their
dormancy. A moderate 3 hour hike over moderate terrain. Bring water.

of April 20)
Meet at Marandino's (RT 44 New Hartford across from Satan's Kingdom) and we
should return about 3:30 pm from this 7 mile hike.. L: Len Berton

8:45 a.m., FCE Hike,
Tunxis Trail, New Hartford
Take RT 44 west, pass RT 179, and just before the bridge that goes over the
Farmington River, take a right onto Breezy Hill Rd. and an immediate left angle
turn onto Farm.River Tpke. Follow the Blue Trail markings and park where the
trail turns to go into the woods. We will do a loop about 4.5 miles long, so
anticipate an 11:30 am return to the cars. L:

8:45 a.m., FCE Hike,
Canton Land Trust, Canton PICNIC AFTER HIKE
We will hike the trails around the Sun, Wind, & Woodland Preserve on Breezy
Hill Rd. in Canton. Take RT 44 west, and about your 5th right after the
intersection with RT 179, take a right onto Indian Hill Rd. Follow this road
(even as it turns to the left) and at the intersection with Breezy Hill take a
right, drive up the hill and park by the preserve. L:

After the hike we will have an indoor "picnic" at Marie's house. Everyone brings something to eat and we
have a feast. Who's bringing what?
