                                JANUARY 2005 SCHEDULE

Saturday, January 1, 2005, 1:30 pm, SG, New Year’s Day Hike

Start the new year “on the right foot.”  Meet at the bulletin board at the park entrance. The Sleeping Giant Park is on Mt. Carmel Avenue in northern Hamden, on the left-hand side, about ¼ mile in from Whitney Avenue (Rt. 10). Hikers should wear comfortable, supportive shoes and bring snacks and water, as desired and dress for the weather. Please do not bring pets. The hikes are open to the public, and there is no fee. Tues. Jan. 4, 8:45 am-- FCE Unofficial, Penwood State Park, Bloomfield

Meet in the parking lot and be ready to hike/snowshoe promptly at 9 am. Anticipate an 11:00 am return time. Penwood is on RT 185 on the Simsbury/Bloomfield town line. L: Marie Coons

Tues. Jan. 11, 8:45 am-- FCE Unofficial, Simsbury Town Forest and Ethel Walker School

Meet adjacent to Borders and Walgreens in the Simsbury Commons, Simsbury. There are many trails to explore in this area. Anticipate an 11:30 am return time. L: Marie Coons

Thurs. Jan. 13, 8:45 am-- FCE Unofficial,  Nepaug State Forest, New Hartford

Meet in the parking lot of Ocean State Job Lot (Rt. 179, just S of intersections with Rts. 44 and 202 in Canton). We will explore some of this state forest in the Satan's Kingdom area. Be prepared for wet and slushy snow. Anticipate an 11:30 return time. L: Marie Coons

Tues. Jan. 18, 8:45 am-- FCE Unofficial, AOF Woods, Thompson Rd., Avon

Meet in the small parking area next to the rails-to-trails off Thompson Rd. in Avon. Coming from West Avon Rd., the parking area is on the right soon after the Thompson Brook School. Anticipate an 11:00 am return time. L: Marie Coons

Tues. Jan. 25, 8:45 am-- FCE Unofficial, Roaring Brook Nature Center, Canton

Meet at the Roaring Brook Nature Center on Gracey Rd. in Canton; travel RT 177 north(Lovely St.), go across RT 44 onto Lawton Rd, bear left at first fork, take 2nd left onto Gracey Rd., follow to nature center. We will not return to the cars until about 11:30 am. L: Marie Coons
