Thursday, June 2,  8:45 a.m., FCE,  Hospital Rock, Farmington + PICNIC

Meet in the parking lot of Post Office Square on Rt 10 in Farmington-this is about ½ mile south of Miss Porter's School on the right and includes Highland Park Market. We will carpool to the start of the hike from here. Return to the cars by 11 am.  After our hike we will have an indoor/outdoor picnic at Diane Vigneau's house in Canton (directions given out at hike or request by email). Click here for menu.  L: Marie Coons

Saturday,  June 4, 9 AM, PSF, National Trails Day Hike

Reading the forest landscape. Explore geologic, Native American, colonial, and forest history. Learn about the animals and plants of the forest. Great views and beauty spots.  Meet at Matthies Grove (main picnic area) at Peoples State Forest.  Bring water, lunch, and insect spray. Heavy rain cancels. We will be walking about 5 miles of varied terrain, one area of steep up and down hill and there could be wet spots. Very relaxed pace, and estimated time is 5 hours. L: Walt Landgraf 

Sunday, June 5, 1:00pm, Burlington Historical Society "Spring Ramble"

Forrester Jim Gillespie and local historian Jonathan Schwartz will guide us through the woods to relics of the past, which include charcoal pits and a cranberry bog. The bog is currently home to a beaver pond and a rookery of great blue herons. The easy hike will be followed by refreshments in the garden of an early 18th century home at 149 Nepaug Rd. Please gather at the trailhead opposite Carriage Dr on Nepaug Rd at 1 pm. Please park on one side of the street only and children must be accompanied by an adult. Sunday, June 5, 1:30pm. SG, HIKE-A-GIANT 2005 

In conjunction with National Trails Day.  All hikes are open to the public. Hike will leave from the bulletin board at the Sleeping Giant Park entrance on the north side of Mt. Carmel Avenue in northern Hamden, about 0.5 mile east of Whitney Avenue. Hikers should wear comfortable, supportive shoes and bring snacks and water, as desired. No pets, please.

Tuesday, June 7, 8 a.m., FCE-U,  M-M-M Trail, Warwick MA to Richmond NH

Meet in the parking lot of the International Skating Center on Rt 10 in Simsbury for this 8.7-mile hike. Bring plenty of water, lunch and snacks.  Anticipate an estimated return time of 6:30 pm.  L: Marie Coons

Saturday, June 11, 10:30 AM, SC Friendly Dog Hike

Sierra Club hikes are free to everyone...you don't have to be a member and no advanced registration necessary! Belding Trout Area in Vernon. A 1.5 hour hike with an easy but steady pace on moderate terrain. Rain cancels. Meet at the 7/11 on Rte. 30 by Vernon Avenue and the NE Pizza Restaurant. Access via I-84 East to exit 66, Tunnel Road. End of ramp turn left to immediate stop sign. Turn left again onto Bolton Road. Go ahead 1/2 mile to light where white church is opposite. That is Rte 30. Turn right onto Rte. 30 and climb hill 1/2 mile. 7/11 ahead on left.  Call Renee only to confirm if weather is questionable. 860-646-5762  No smoking, no cell phones, please.

Friday, June 17, 9am, LH, Metacomet Trail - Simsbury

Meet in Fisher Meadows parking lot (Avon, off rt. 10). Carpool up to start on Wintonbury Rd, Simsbury. (Can also meet us there at approx 9:25) We'll proceed north on the trail until Tariffville, when we'll retrace our steps to the cars. Short, sweet. Bring bug dope and water. Estimated return to Fisher Meadows 11:30.  L: Diana Meyer

Tuesday, June 21, 8:45 a.m., LH,  Naugatuck Trail, Bethany/Beacon Falls

Meet at Burlington Commons (Rt. 4 at Rt. 69) to carpool.  Hike about 6.2 miles on Naugatuck Trail including short side trails to Beacon Cap and Spruce Knob viewpoints.  Bring bug spray, plenty of water, lunch and/or snacks.  Estimated return time before 2 pm.  L: Len Berton

Thursday, June 23, 9am, LH, Reservoir #1, Farmington/West Hartford

Meet at far rear parking lot off Rt. 4, near Farmington/West Hartford line.  Bring usual warm weather stuff.  Finish before noon.  L: Mary Uccello.

Wednesday, June 29, 8:45 am,  LH, Metacomet Trail 

Will go from Reservoir 6 north to Heublein Pavilion and return.  Meet at Avon's Fisher Meadows (or 9:10 AM in far back MDC Reservoir #6 lot off Rt. 44/Albany Avenue). Short walk before the heat or thunderstorms get to us. Estimate return to cars by noon. Bring plenty of water and snacks. L: Diana Meyer
