NOVEMBER 2005 SCHEDULE Tuesday, Nov. 1, 8:45 a.m. FCE-U, Naugatuck TrailMeet in the commuter parking lot next to the Little League field on Library Lane off Rt 4 in Burlington to carpool to this 6.5-mile hike, including a new section that's not in the bluebook yet. I estimate we will be back to the cars about 3 pm. L: Marie Coons, CL: Len Berton Thursday, Nov. 3, 8:45 am, FCE, Ragged Mountain Preserve, Berlin Take Rt 4 east to Rt 84 west, left exit onto Rt 72 east to Rt 372 Corbins Ave. exit. Take a right off the exit (head towards New Britain), follow Rt 372 south until road splits, follow right split onto Rt 71A south. Take a right onto West Lane (about a mile, 6th street on right). Follow West Lane to the Ragged Mt. Preserve sign and park here. Anticipate an 11:15 return time. L: Marie Coons Saturday, November 5, 9:45 am, SC, Foliage Hike - Cockaponset State Forest Crunch through the leaves on a loop trail with lunch by Pataconk Lake in Chester. Medium pace 5.7 miles over mostly easy terrain. Bring boots, lunch, water. Rain date 11/6. Leave from Park & Ride lot at exit 6 off Rt. 9 in Chester. No need to pre-register. L: Ken Selling, 860-344-9774 Sunday, November 6, 11:00am, SG, Fall Hikers’ Hike A strenuous hike over rough terrain - FOR EXPERIENCED HIKERS ONLY! All hikes are open to the public. Hike will leave from the bulletin board at the Sleeping Giant Park entrance on the north side of Mt. Carmel Avenue in northern Hamden, about 0.5 mile east of Whitney Avenue. Hikers should wear comfortable, supportive shoes and bring snacks and water, as desired. No pets, please. Tuesday, Nov. 8, 7:30 a.m. FCE-U, MMM Trail, Richmond, NH to Troy, NH Meet in the parking lot of the International Skating Center in Simsbury for this 10.6 mile hike. Anticipate a 7:30 pm return time. Pack lots of food and liquid. L: Marie Coons Thursday, Nov. 10, 8:45 am, FCE, Tunxis Trail, Barkhamsted Follow Rt 44 west through Canton and New Hartford, take a right onto Rt 219 and follow until you see the parking area on the right just before Ratlum Rd. Our view today will be of Lake McDonough and the Barkhamsted Reservoir. Anticipate an 11:30 am return time. L: Marie Coons Sunday, November 13, 1:30pm. SG, Geology-of-the-Giant Hike All hikes are open to the public. Hike will leave from the bulletin board at the Sleeping Giant Park entrance on the north side of Mt. Monadnock postponed till Spring Meet in the parking lot of the International Skating Center in Simsbury for this 9.5 mile hike to complete our journey on the MMM Trail!!! Anticipate a 7:30 pm return time. L: Marie Coons Thursday, Nov. 17, 8:45 am, FCE, Heublein Tower, Simsbury PICNIC Take Rt 10 north through Avon into Simsbury and take a right onto Rt 185 towards Bloomfield. Follow part way up the mountain and take a right at the Talcott Mountain State Park sign. Park on the right about 200 yards up the road. L: Marie Coons Wednesday, Nov. 23, 9:00 am, LH, Metacomet Trail to Will Warren's Den and back. Meet on Pinnacle Rd. opposite Reservoir Rd. (off Rt. 6 in Farmington just west of the Tomasso gravel operation). Return to cars around 11:30AM. L: Diana Meyer Tuesday, Nov. 29, 9 a.m. LH, Metacomet Trail north - Plainville. Meet at Big Y Supermarket on Rt 372, Plainville. We will carpool a short way down 372 E. and start at the trail crossing opposite a medical building. Up and back (until we get a view or two), then return to cars approximately 11:30. Hopefully it's not snowy or icy 'cause I'm not bringing snowshoes yet! L: Diana Meyer
