Sunday, Sept. 4, 9 a.m. PSF, Tree Identification Walk.

Learn how to use tree identification keys, which will be available to each person on the walk. We will explore the growing requirements of each type of tree and its past and present usage.

Meet at Matthies Grove (main picnic area) at Peoples State Forest bring water and insect spray. Heavy rain cancels. We will be walking about 1.5 miles of moderate terrain and the estimated time is 3 hours. L: Walt Landgraf 

Thursday, Sept. 22,  9 a.m. FCE, Sessions Woods, Burlington

8+ weekly hikes begin. First hike meets at Sessions Woods, Rt. 69, 3+ miles south of the intersection with Rt 4, Burlington.  Call 404-0290 to register -- specify "Course # 05F1301 -- Hikes".  See Hiking Notes.  L: Marie Coons

Sunday, September 25, 1:30pm. SG, Fall Wildflower Hike

All hikes are open to the public. Hike will leave from the bulletin board at the Sleeping Giant Park entrance on the north side of Mt. Carmel Avenue in northern Hamden, about 0.5 mile east of Whitney Avenue. Hikers should wear comfortable, supportive shoes and bring snacks and water, as desired. No pets, please.

Tuesday, Sept. 27,  8:45 a.m. FCE-U, McLean Game Refuge, Simsbury/Granby

Meet in the parking lot of Simsbury Commons near Borders to carpool to this hike. Anticipate an 11:45 am return time.  L: Marie Coons

Thursday, Sept. 29, 8:45 am, FCE, Hedgehog-Cathles Trails, Simsbury

One way to get there is to follow Rt 167 through Avon, into Simsbury, and take a left on West Mountain Rd. (behind McDonald's). Follow to the end (even as it changes its name to Sugarloaf Cut) and take a left onto Rt 309 and then an immediate right onto Hedgehog Rd., follow for less than a mile and take a left on Saddle Ridge Rd., drive to the end and park.  L: Marie Coons
