APRIL 2006 SCHEDULESunday, April 2, 1:30pm. SG, History-of-the-Giant Hike All hikes are open to the public. Hike will leave from the bulletin board at the Sleeping Giant Park entrance on the north side of Mt. Carmel Avenue in northern Hamden, about 0.5 mile east of Whitney Avenue. Hikers should wear comfortable, supportive shoes and bring snacks and water, as desired. No pets, please. Tuesday, April 4, 8:45 a.m. FCE U, Shenipsit Trail
- Haddam to Glastonbury Meet at Farmington CPL, Rt.4 (Farmington Ave.) at Town Farm Rd., for this 9+ mile hike. Bring supplies to sustain you until our return time of approximately 4 pm. Bad weather will change plans (which will be posted here if necessary). L: Marie Coons Thursday, April 6, 9 a.m., FCE, Sessions Woods, Burlington 8+ weekly Thursday hikes + ?? Tuesday "unofficials" begin. First hike meets at Sessions Woods, Rt. 69, 3+ miles south of the intersection with Rt 4, Burlington. Call 404-0290 to register -- specify "Course # 06S1301 -- Hikes". Hartford Revisited 1 (C3C) Tuesday, April 11, 7:30 a.m. FCE U, Mt. Monadnock, NH Meet in the parking lot of the International Skating Center on Rt 10/202 in Simsbury. This 9+ mile hike is going to make for a long day so pack plenty of food and water. You have the option of hiking just Monadnock which would be 2.3 miles each way (total=4.6 miles) or you can do the extra miles to Troy, NH. You do not need to decide until we get down the mountain! For those hikers trekking the whole 9+ miles, anticipate a 7:30 pm return time. Bad weather will postpone this adventure. L: Marie Coons Thursday, April 13, 8:45 a.m., FCE, Tunxis Trail, Burlington Meet on Cornwall Rd. in Burlington for this wooded loop hike on the white dot, green dot, and blue trail. Follow Rt 4 west through Unionville, take a left up the hill towards Burlington center. Then left on Belden Rd. (at Town Hall), right on George Washington Tpk., and left on Cornwall. Park where the white dot trail crosses the road. L: Marie Coons Tues. April 18, 8:45 a.m. FCE U, Shenipsit Trail, Middle Haddam to Glastonbury Meet in the commuter parking lot on the corner of Town Farm Rd. and Rt. 4 (Farmington Ave.). Anticipate a 4 pm return time to the cars from this 9+ mile hike. (Could be later if we run into rush hour traffic.) L: Marie Coons Thurs. April 20, 8:45 a.m. FCE U, The Swan Preserve, Canton Meet on Case St. in North Canton. Follow Rt 179 north through Canton Center and soon after the intersection with Rt 309, take a right onto Case St. Parking is a very short distance up on the right. Anticipate an 11 am return time to the cars. L: Marie Coons Friday, April 21 - Sunday, April 30 -- Hiking Trip Southeastern Utah & Southern Colorado $600 includes accommodations and ground transportation in Utah. Spend 8 days of hiking and exploring in and around the glorious sun-drenched desert and red rock canyons of Southeastern Utah and Southern Colorado. L: Fiona Nicholson. Penultimate hike in series. Hike approx. 4 mi on classic Mile of Ledges/Tory Den loop using Mainline, Yellow Dot Trails and Greer Rd. Meet at jct. Scoville Rd. and Rt. 69 (across from cemetery) in Burlington. This point 2+ mi. S of jct. Rt 4 & Rt. 69. Rain cancels. if in doubt, call L by 9:00AM. April 25, 8:45 a.m. FCE U, Shenipsit Trail, Ellington to Somers Meet in the parking lot of the International Skating Center in Simsbury on Rt 10/202. Today we will hike 6 easy miles with a car spot. Anticipate a 3 pm return time to the cars. L: Marie Coons Thursday, April 27, 8:45 a.m., FCE, Canton Land Trust Trails, Canton Meet on Breezy Hill Rd. for this wooded hike on a few different Canton Land Trust Trails. From Avon, follow Rt 44 west, take a right on Indian Hill Rd., stay left on Indian Hill at the "Y" in the road, take a right on Breezy Hill Rd. and park about 50 yards up the road.
