FEBRUARY 2006 SCHEDULE Tuesday, Feb. 7, 8:45 am, FCE-U, Sessions Woods, Burlington Meet in the parking lot of Sessions Woods, which is located on Rt. 69 about 3 miles from the intersection with Rt. 4 in Burlington (heading towards Bristol). Anticipate an 11:30 am return time. L: Marie Coons Tuesday, Feb. 14, 8:45 am, FCE-U, Ethel Walkers/Town Forest, Simsbury Meet on Woodhaven Dr. in Simsbury. From the intersection of Rt. 44 and 167, take Rt 167 north and Woodhaven is the second left past the firehouse. Follow the road to the end. We should be back to the cars by 11 am. L: Marie Coons Thursday, Feb. 16, 8:45 am, LH, Roaring Brook Nature Center, Canton Meet @ Nature Center - From Rt. 44, go N on Lawton Rd. which is opposite Lovely St. (Rt. 177). Second L on Gracey Rd., Center is about a mile or two on the left. Plan to either snowshoe or walk for an hour and a half or two. Their trail maps are 10 cents, so bring a dime if you want to purchase one! Expect return to cars around 11 AM. L: Diana Meyer Sunday, February 19, 1:30pm. SG, Winter Tree Identification Hike All hikes are open to the public. Hike will leave from the bulletin board at the Sleeping Giant Park entrance on the north side of Mt. Carmel Avenue in northern Hamden, about 0.5 mile east of Whitney Avenue. Hikers should wear comfortable, supportive shoes and bring snacks and water, as desired. No pets, please. Tues. Feb. 21, 8:45 am, FCE-U, Metacomet Trail, Simsbury We will meet on Wintonbury Rd. in Simsbury and explore some trails around this area. From Avon take Rt 10/202 north, take a right onto Rt 185 and your first left after the bridge on East Weatogue St. Follow East Weatogue St. even as it bears right onto Terry's Plain Rd. Just after Hunting Ridge Dr., take a right onto Wintonbury Rd. Park at the dead end. Anticipate an 11:30 am return time. L: Marie Coons Sunday, February 26, 2pm, Lecture: "The Nepaug Dam", Burlington Library Part of Burlington Bicentennial Speaker Series: Vintage Views and Voices lecture. We are all familiar with the Nepaug Reservoir in the northern part of town, but did you know that there used to be a village where the reservoir is now? Local historian Dr. Lawrence Carlton presents a lecture and slideshow on the history and construction of the Nepaug Dam. Burlington Library Community Room. Free. Coffee & refreshments served. Tue. Feb. 28, 8:45 am, FCE-U, Roraback Wildlife Management Area, Harwinton Meet in the commuter parking lot adjacent to the Burlington Library & the Little League field on Library Lane off Rt 4 at library sign in Burlington.
