We will explore some trails in this beautiful park and get a nice view of Simsbury. Meet on Wintonbury Rd. in Simsbury. (The directions are above on the May 25 hike.) After the hike we will have an indoor "pot luck" picnic.  Thanks to Carrie for volunteering to host us at her lovely house once again. Click here to see the menu and to sign up for what you're bringing.   L: Marie Coons

Saturday. June 3, 9 a.m., PSF, National Trails Day Hike, Lighthouse Community, Barkhamsted

Other attractions of the area are: a vernal pool, site of People's Forest Dedication, wild flowers and early forest campground. Learn about the lives of the early people and the legends that have developed around them.  Meet at Matthies Grove (main picnic area) at People's State Forest.  Bring water and insect spray. Heavy rain cancels. About 2 miles of varied terrain, uneven ground, with sections of off-trail hiking. Very relaxed pace -- estimated time 3 hours.  L: Walt Landgraf

A moderately difficult, 3-mile hike through the Martha Brower Wildlife Sanctuary, Mile of Ledges, and historic Tory Den.  Meet by the pond at the Sanctuary on Greer Rd.  Recommended for ages 9 and up.  Hike will be held rain or shine, but rain reduces hike to 1 mile.  Bring beverage.  Prize for youngest and oldest hiker.  Call L to pre-register at 673-8730. L: Ann Jurkiewicz
