Thursday, November 2, 8:45am, FCE - Tunxis Mile of Ledges, Burlington
The wet rocks at Mile of Ledges will be unsafe today -- but the rain is supposed to end early.  So we will do a shorter, easier hike at Sessions Woods.  Same time and meeting place.  Will try for Mile of Ledges on Nov. 16

A moderately difficult 3.2 mile loop through the Martha Brower Wildlife Sanctuary, Mile of Ledges, and historic Tory Den. Meet at Scoville Rd. at Rt. 69 opposite Lamson Corner cemetery in Burlington, and we will carpool to the trailhead. This point is 2+ mi. S of jct. Rt. 4 & Rt. 69. L: Len Berton

Sunday, November 5, 11:00am, SG, Fall Hikers’ Hike

A strenuous hike over rough terrain - FOR EXPERIENCED HIKERS ONLY! All hikes are open to the public. Hike will leave from the bulletin board at the Sleeping Giant Park entrance on the north side of Mt. Carmel Avenue in northern Hamden, about 0.5 mile east of Whitney Avenue. Hikers should wear comfortable, supportive shoes and bring snacks and water, as desired. No pets, please. 

Tuesday, Nov. 7, 8:45am, FCE-U - Western McLean Trails - Simbury/Granby

[By request of Simsbury group members.]  Meet at Borders Books PL in Simsbury Commons (just N jnc Rts. 44 & 167) for carpool to trail head.  Alternate meet 9:15 at trailhead PL on Firetown Rd. just S of Granby town line.  Eddy Loop + Weed Hill trails (3.6 mi.), and perhaps some Westledge trail if the group wants a little more.  Bring water, lunch, snacks.  Est. return by 1pm depending on distance desired.  Plenty of time to get to the voting booth.  L: Len Berton

Thursday, November 9, 8:45am, FCE - Roaring Brook Nature Center, Canton

Meet at the Center's parking lot on Gracey Rd. Go N on Lawton Rd. (opposite Rt. 177) off Rt. 44, L on Gracey at the Nature Center sign. Pretty brook, waterfall, nice rolling terrain with some moderately steep hills. Following the hike, Cheryl Janer will host our end-of-season "bring-a-dish" luncheon at her Canton home. Sunday, November 12, 1:30pm. SG, Geology-of-the-Giant Hike

All hikes are open to the public. Hike will leave from the bulletin board at the Sleeping Giant Park entrance on the north side of Mt. Tuesday, Nov 14, 7:30am, FCE-U - Over Bear Mt. to Bear Mt. Bridge, New York AT cancelled due to weather

Meet in Burlington at the commuter lot adjacent to the Burlington Library/Little League field on Library Lane.  The hike is 8.2 miles and we should be back to the Bear Mountain Bridge by 4 pm and Burlington by 7 pm (but remember, be flexible).  Please read this list and pack accordingly. [Other info: we have hiked 50.9 miles so far in NY and have 37.4 miles to go. After we complete Bear Mountain, we have 4 hikes left in NY (this will also bring us into NJ a bit). We will pick up where we left off on Nov. 7. 5.4 miles of mostly easy walking but with a few steep hills. We may also climb to the summit of one of the Barndoor Hills to catch the view if the group desires.  Meet at the parking lot on Barndoor Hills Rd. Entrance road is on right, 1.5 miles N of intersection with Simsbury Rd.  Bring water, lunch, snacks.  Est. return to cars by 1:30 pm.  L: Len Berton
