JANUARY 2007 SCHEDULE
Monday, January 1, 2007, 1pm, LH, West Ledge, Simsbury cancelled due to heavy rain. Rescheduled -- see 1/7.
A good moderate hike - one way distance 2.8 miles. We will go in and out so we will not have to spot cars. Can shorten the round trip depending on what the group would like. Meet at Cathy Leonard's home at 265 Old Farms Road, Simsbury, near Firetown Road, 651-7591. Wear and bring appropriate hiking shoes, clothing, water and a snack. Monday, January 1, 2007, 1:30pm. SG, New Year’s Day Hike
Start the new year “on the right foot”. All hikes are open to the public. Hike will leave from the bulletin board at the Sleeping Giant Park entrance on the north side of Mt. Carmel Avenue in northern Hamden, about 0.5 mile east of Whitney Avenue. Hikers should wear comfortable, supportive shoes and bring snacks and water, as desired. No pets, please.

Meet at Farmington CPL, Rt 4 & Town Farm Rd. to carpool to this hike. 7-mile loop hike to north end of ridge. Good views. Take Rte. 15 (Wilbur Cross Parkway) to exit 60. Turn rt. at end of ramp. Turn rt. at next light onto Benham St. Go to end and turn left onto Main St. Turn rt. at sign for Lake Wintergreen parking. AMC meets at 9:30. Steady rain/snow cancels. Thu., Jan. 11, 9:05am, AMC, Peoples State Forest (B3BC), Barkhamsted
Meet at Marandino's Market (Rt.44 opposite Satan's Kingdom) to carpool to Peoples (leaving at 9:15). A 6-mile loop hike with varied terrains and some nice views of the Farmington River. No car spotting. AMC start time 9:30. Steady precip. cancels. L Doug Atwell (860-646-8629)
Sat., Jan. 13, XX am, AMC, Saugatuck Trail South (B2B/C), Weston Len not going due to weather forecast
6-mile loop hike on the southern portion of the Saugatuck Trail, with lunch overlooking the spectacular cascades south of the Saugatuck Reservoir. Hike will end at 2pm. If anybody wants to carpool to this hike with me, pls send email or call and I will set time and place to meet. len@cthikes.com.
Tuesday, January 16, 9am, LH, Crescent Lake/Metacomet Trails - Southington
Meet @ Crescent Lake (former Plainville Reservoir) boat launch parking lot in Southington. We're exploring the lake trails and their connection to the Metacomet blue trail. Guesstimating 4 - 6 miles so bring plenty of water and a sandwich. Possible return to cars around 12:30PM. Take Rt. 372 East, Plainville (past Loew's, Lowe's & Big Y Plazas). Take first right over bridge over I-84 (Crooked Street). Right @ light. Take next left and continue 2 - 3 mi on curvy, narrow, Ledge Road (which turns into Shuttle Meadow Rd. when it crosses into Southington). Lake, boat launch and parking will appear on your left. Thursday, January 18, 9am, LH, Ray Smith Trail - Canton Land Trust
Approx. 2.5 mi. through nearby woods. Meet in Simsbury Commons - (behind Walgreen's, adjacent to Border's) to carpool. Or meet us @ 9:20AM @ the Canton Land Trust parking lot off Indian Hill Rd. in Canton. Go west on Rt. 44 through Canton intersection with Rt. 179. Indian Hill Rd is 4th right after Bristol's Farm. (If you get to Satan's Kingdom you've gone too far.) Stay on Indian Hill Rd approx 2 mi. past West Mtn Rd. and Spaulding Rd. Land Trust parking is in a small drive on the left after Spaulding Rd. Reservoir 1 to Kilkenney Rock and beyond. Note later start time: an attempt
to start in warmer temp. Meet in 'way- back MDC parking lot off Rt. 4,
West Hartford/Farmington line. Bring snacks and water. We'll probably go 3 - 4
