                           JUNE 2007 SCHEDULE

Sunday, June 3, 1:30pm. SG, HIKE-A-GIANT 2007 

In conjunction with National Trails Day.  All hikes are open to the public. Hike will leave from the bulletin board at the Sleeping Giant Park entrance on the north side of Mt. Carmel Avenue in northern Hamden, about 0.5 mile east of Whitney Avenue. Hikers should wear comfortable, supportive shoes and bring snacks and water, as desired. No pets, please.

Tuesday, June 5, 8:45am, FCE-U – Peoples State Forest, Barkhamsted 

Meet at Marandino's Market on Rt. 44 just W of the Farmington River bridge in New Hartford, NW of Canton. We will do a loop including the "299 stone steps" and several trails, featuring two beautiful overlooks.  Distance is about 6 miles.  Bring snacks, lunch and water.  Estimated return to cars about 1:30.  L: Len Berton

Thursday, June 7, 8:45am, FCE – Tunxis Nature Center Connector, Bristol/Burlington (this is a weather postponement makeup)
 + end of season luncheon

Park on the wide shoulder strip on the south side of Scoville Rd., off Rt. 69 opposite the Lamson Corner Cemetery. We will carpool to the Barnes Nature Center on Shrub Rd. in Bristol and hike back to the cars. Possible side trip to Hemenway Lookout if the weather is clear. Jenny has volunteered to host our end-of-season "bring-a-dish" luncheon at her Burlington home following this hike. Tuesday, June 12, 7:30 am FCE-U Appalachian Trail--NY/NJ State Line cancelled due to wet rocks & risk of thunderstorms.  New date TBD

Meet in Burlington at the commuter lot adjacent to the Burlington Library/Little League field on Library Lane. This hike is about 9 miles. Anticipate a return time of about 9:30 pm to Burlington (but remember, be flexible). We will finish the NY section of the AT! Please read this list and pack accordingly, and of course bring plenty of water, snacks, and food. L: Marie Coons

Tuesday, June 12, 8:45 am, LH, Hedgehog Trail - Simsbury Land Trust land, W. Simsbury

Meet @ Borders Books/behind Walgreens, Simsbury Commons. (or 9:15AM @ trailhead at cul-de-sac at north end of Saddle Ridge Rd. (Rt. 309 to Hedgehog Rd., left on Saddle Ridge to end). Pack water, snacks, bug spray. Expected return to cars around 12:30 (unless we stop off for ice cream @ Tulmeadow Farm!). Thundershowers are forecast, so call L if question (673-4732). Thursday, June 21, 8:45 am, LH, White Memorial Foundation, Litchfield

Meet in Burlington at the commuter lot adjacent to the Burlington Library/Little League field on Library Lane.  We will carpool to Litchfield. Trails tbd, but probably will include the long boardwalk around Little Pond.  Pack plenty of water, snacks, lunch, bug spray. Expected return to cars around 1:00 pm. L: Len Berton

All hikes are open to the public. Hike will leave from the bulletin board at the Sleeping Giant Park entrance on the north side of Mt. Tuesday, June 26, 8:45 am, LH, Metacomet Trail, Heublein Tower, Simsbury

Meet at Penwood parking lot off 185 in Simsbury. We will walk across and pick up blue trail to tower.  Back down using the main trail and the narrow ridge line trail that ends at Life Star landing zone. Then down the road to parking area. This hike is moderately hilly. Should return to cars by 12:30 to 1PM.  Bring snack, light lunch and plenty of water for a hot day. L: Jerry Marcum
