HOME | NOVEMBER 2007 SCHEDULE Thursday, Nov 1, 8:45am, FCE - John Muir Trail, Torrington Meet at the Burr Pond boat launch parking lot. Take Rt. 4 W through Burlington & Harwinton, and stay on 4 when it turns right. In about 1.3 mi., turn R on Torringford St. (Rt. 183). In about 4.3 mi. turn L on Greenwoods Rd. When you cross Winsted Rd. name changes to Mountain Rd. Take 2nd L park entrance to boat launch pkg lot. [if you see a "toll booth", that is the 1st entrance -- go back out and continue to 2nd.) From Simsbury/Avon/Canton area, you can take Rt. 44, bear L onto Rt. 202 into Torrington, and R on Rt.183 (just after Walmart on L) and then as above. L: Len Berton Sunday, November 4, 11:00am, SG, Fall Hikers’ Hike A strenuous hike over rough terrain - FOR EXPERIENCED HIKERS ONLY! All hikes are open to the public. Hike will leave from the bulletin board at the Sleeping Giant Park entrance on the north side of Mt. Carmel Avenue in northern Hamden, about 0.5 mile east of Whitney Avenue. Hikers should wear comfortable, supportive shoes and bring snacks and water, as desired. No pets, please. Tuesday, November 6, 9am, LH, Devil's Hopyard Cancelled. Rain forecasted to continue through mid afternoon. Meet Town Farm Rd. CPL Farmington next to golf course. Probably about 5 - 6 miles. Will do different trails from 9/18 hike. Bring lunch, water, snacks. Heavy rain cancels. Probable return, guessing about 3PM. L: Len Berton Thursday, Nov 8, 8:45am, FCE - Tunxis Lollipop, Burlington Meet at the Burlington commuter parking lot on Library Lane off Rt. 4 next to the Little League field and the Congregational Church. We will carpool to the start of the hike at the GW Tpk W dead end. First we will follow the purple-dot Tunxis to the red-dot, and follow that up Taine Mtn to Perry's Lookout. Continue to the end of the red-dot N section. Reverse to blue Taine Mtn Rd blue loop and back to start. L: Len Berton Sunday, November 11, 1:30pm. Thursday, Nov 15, 8:45 am, FCE - Roaring Brook Nature Center, Canton postponed to December 6 due to rain and threat of lightning Meet at the Center's parking lot on Gracey Rd. Go N on Lawton Rd. (opposite Rt. 177) off Rt. 44, L on Gracey at the Nature Center sign. Pretty brook, waterfall, nice rolling terrain with some moderately steep hills. Tues, Nov. 20, 9AM, LH, Will Warren's Den, Farmington postponed to Nov 27 due to weather Meet on Pinnacle Rd., opposite Reservoir Rd. (off Rt. 6 in Farmington just west of the Tomasso gravel operation). Bring snacks and water. Return to cars around noon. L: Jane Macomber Tues, Nov. 27, 9AM, LH, Will Warren's Den, Farmington postponed from Nov. 20 Meet on Pinnacle Rd., opposite Reservoir Rd. L: Jane Macomber Thursday, Nov 29, 8:45am, FCE - Tunxis Nature Center Connector, Bristol/Burlington postponement makeup from 10/25 Park on the wide shoulder strip on the south side of Scoville Rd., off Rt. 69 opposite the Lamson Corner Cemetery. We will carpool to the Barnes Nature Center on Shrub Rd. in Bristol and hike back to the cars. Possible .3 mile side trip to Hemenway Lookout if the weather is clear. L: Len Berton
