                           DECEMBER 2008 SCHEDULE

Tues. Dec. 2, 9 am,  FCE-U, Granby Land Trust

Meet on Donahue Rd. in Granby to explore the Godard Preserve and Mary Edwards Mountain Property. Take Rt. 10 north through Simsbury into Granby; at the multi-road intersection in the center of Granby take left onto Rt. 20 north and very soon, a right onto Rt. 189 north. Drive almost 3.5 miles and turn left onto Mountain Rd. Then in about 1.5 miles turn right on Donahue Rd. and go about a mile. Anticipate an 11:45 am return time to the cars. L: Marie Coons

Thursday, Dec. 4, 8:45am, FCE - Sunnybrook State Park, Torrington  (Makeup for Nov 6)

Take Rt. 4 into Torrington. Pass Rt. 8 and turn R on Main St. At "Y"-jnc, take slight L onto Newfield Rd. Then ~2 mi. to park entrance on L. (Or meet at 8:10 to carpool at the Burlington commuter parking lot on Library Lane off Rt. 4 next to the Little League field.) We will do the Testone Boulder, Fadior Spring, Beaver Pond and Fyler trails. L: Len Berton

Sunday, December 7, 1:30pm. SG, Holiday Hike and Social

Hike starts at 1:30 PM, Social and songs at 3:00 PM.  Choice of short or long hike. All hikes are open to the public. Hike will leave from the bulletin board at the Sleeping Giant Park entrance on the north side of Mt. Carmel Avenue in northern Hamden, about 0.5 mile east of Whitney Avenue. Hikers should wear comfortable, supportive shoes and bring snacks and water, as desired. No pets, please.

Tues. Dec. 9, 9 am, FCE-U, Hillstead Museum, Farmington

Meet in the parking lot of the Hill-Stead Museum, 35 Mountain Rd., Farmington. We will hike a new Farmington Land Trust Trail off of Mt. Springs Rd., then explore some of the Hill-Stead trails. The land trust trail is steep so some type of gripping (traction) footwear (crampon type) is a must. Expect to be back to the cars by 11:15 am. We will not hike if it is raining. L: Marie Coons

Thursday, December 11, 8:45 am, FCE - Metacomet Trail, Bradley Mountain, Plainville/Southington  (Makeup for Nov 13)

Meet in Big Y parking lot on Rt. 372 in Plainville and we will carpool to the trailhead. Crescent Lake loop trails with several overlooks and possibly up to 700' summit of Bradley Mtn. Hike cancelled due to sleet & freezing rain. Try again next week.  L: Len Berton

Meet in the parking lot of the Hill-Stead Museum, 35 Mountain Rd., Farmington. Two hour snowshoe.  Dress warmly. L: Jane Macomber
