HOME | JANUARY 2008 SCHEDULE Tuesday, January 1, 2008, 1:30pm. SG, New Year’s Day Hike Start the new year “on the right foot”. All hikes are open to the public. Hike will leave from the bulletin board at the Sleeping Giant Park entrance on the north side of Mt. Carmel Avenue in northern Hamden, about 0.5 mile east of Whitney Avenue. Hikers should wear comfortable, supportive shoes and bring snacks and water, as desired. No pets, please. T uesday, January 8, 2008, 8:45am. LH, Fisher Meadows, AvonMeet @ Unionville's Stop&Shop (westernmost lot) or at the Park itself in Avon @ 9:15am. Depending on the surface of the ground, we'll snowshoe or walk...or not (if it's too icy)! Come prepared for a short-ish first-of-the-year "event." Expect to be back to cars by 11:30 or so. Mario's Ristorante is located (244 Farms Village Road, West Simsbury). Parking
at trail head is limited, so we will car pool approx 4 miles to start. We are
hiking/snowshoeing the Eddy Loop in McLean Game Preserve. This is a great
trail, very quiet and scenic. The hike is about 3.2 miles -- estimated 2 hours.
Either have lunch before or bring snack/sandwich etc. Tu esday, January 15, 2008, 8:45am. LH, Huckleberry Hills, Avon (Part 2)Meet @ the Huckleberry Hills School lot (note: no Stop&Shop meeting). The group from last week wants to snowshoe the rest of the trails. Expect to be back to cars by 11:30 or so. Do bring water! L: Diana Meyer We are planning to hike the BLUE and YELLOW trails. Meet in Pennwood parking lot - Rt. 185, about 3/4 mi. E of Rt. 10. Plan on 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Some of the trails are a little icy but mostly snow. These trails are moderately hilly. This is a fun hike and we will do a pace suitable for all.
