Thursday, Oct. 2, 8:45 am, FCE - Holcomb Farm, W Granby

Pleasant collection of moderate trails looping all around the farm. Go to www.holcombfarm.com to read about the farm's activities and to find a trail map. From Rt. 44 in Canton, go N on Rt 179 for 4.9mi. Slight R onto Case St to end. R on Rt 219, then R on Rt 20. R on Simsbury Rd, then about a mile to the Farm (111 Simsbury Rd.) Est. time 30 min. from 44/179 jnc. L: Len Berton

Tuesday, Oct. 7, 8:00am, FCE-U, Appalachian Trail, Vermont

Meet at Marandino's on Rt. 44 in New Hartford (note earlier time) for this hike on the first section of the Appalachian/Long Trail in Southern Vermont. We will hike about 6.5 miles so anticipate a return time of 4:30 pm. Bring lunch and snacks. L: Marie Coons

Sunday, October 12, 1:30pm. SG, East End Hike

On seldom-visited trails. All hikes are open to the public. Hike will leave from the bulletin board at the Sleeping Giant Park entrance on the north side of Mt. Carmel Avenue in northern Hamden, about 0.5 mile east of Whitney Avenue. Hikers should wear comfortable, supportive shoes and bring snacks and water, as desired. No pets, please.

Tuesday, October 14, 8:45am, FCE-U, Mohawk Trail - Dean Ravine to Falls Village

Meet in the Ocean State Job Lot parking lot in Canton (Rt. 179) to carpool. We will hike 5.5 miles on the northern section of the Mohawk Trail and a bit of the AT. Estimate back to the cars about 3:30pm. Bring lunch and snacks. L: Marie Coons

Thursday, Oct. 16, 8:45am, FCE - Mattatuck Trail, Plymouth/Wolcott

Back by popular demand. We will pass Buttermilk Falls, Marino Pond, Indian Jack cave (with overlook), and Charlie Krug cave. Meet at Peterson Memorial Park. Go S on Rt 69 from Bristol into Wolcott. After passing Bound Line Rd. & a bowling alley, go R on Mad River Rd. (road sign hard to see - if you get to Rt. 322, turn around, you just missed it). Then ¼ mi. to park entrance on R. Est. time 15 min. from Rt.6/Rt.69 jnc. In Bristol. L: Len Berton

Saturday October 18th, 10 am, SC,  Hartman Park, Lyme 

There’s over 3 centuries of American history on this 4 mile 2 ½ hour hike. You’ll learn some secrets of sassafras and why this area was a back-up plan if religious problems in England worsened.  Hartman Park can be found by taking CT 156 from Hadlyme for 1.8 miles south from its junction with CT 82. Turn left onto Beaverbrook Road, just past Lyme School. After 2.7 miles turn left again onto Gungy Road. The park entrance is 1 mile down this road on your right.   Bring plenty of water, snacks or lunch, and good hiking boots for stability and traction. Sunday, October 19, 9am, BLT, Tunxis Mile of Ledges, Burlington

A moderately difficult 3.2 mile loop through the Martha Brower Wildlife Sanctuary, Mile of Ledges, and historic Tory Den. Meet at Scoville Rd. at Rt. 69 opposite Lamson Corner cemetery in Burlington, and we will carpool to the trailhead. This point is 2+ mi. S of jct. Rt. 4 & Rt. 69. Meet in the parking lot of Ocean State Job Lot, Rt.202/Rt.179, Canton, to carpool to this nearby hike. We should be back to the cars by 11:30 am. We will have a nice view on this trek. L: Marie Coons

Thursday, Oct. 23, 8:45am, FCE - White Memorial Foundation, Litchfield

Meet at visitors' parking lot opposite museum. Take Rt. 4 through Burlington & Harwinton and go straight onto Rt. 118. Pass Rt 8 entrance & continue L on Rt. 118 to Litchfield and then go straight onto Rt. 202. WMF entrance is 2.5 miles W of Litchfield center on left. L: Len Berton

Thursday, Oct. 30, 8:45 am, FCE - Peoples State Forest, Pleasant Valley/Barkhamsted

We will head up the Agnes Bowen Trail, reach the overlook, and return on the Robert Ross Trail. Meet at the main PSF parking lot. Take Rt. 44 W through New Hartford. Just over the Barkhamsted town line, R on Rt. 181. At stop sign, go R over bridge, and 1st L on E. River Rd. Then about .9 mi. to L into Matthies Grove picnic area, just after passing Greenwoods Rd. on R. L: Len Berton
