Middletown Meet at the Farmington CPL on Rt. 4 at Town Farm Rd. to carpool. This hike was featured in Peter Marteka's Hartford Courant article of March 21: "it is home to some of the wildest, most scenic natural vistas in the central part of the state. Visitors can explore the heart of this 10,240-acre expanse of largely forested land along a 12-mile section of the blue-blazed Mattabesett Trail or along an equally scenic reservoir loop trail. The trail travels through watershed land past what are simply known as Asylum Reservoir No. 1 and Asylum Reservoir No. 2. These picturesque bodies of water surrounded by white pines and mountain laurel were dug by hand during the late 1800's and early 1900's." CWB map MB-1. L: Len Berton
