HOME | APRIL-MAY 2011 SCHEDULE Thursday, April 7, 8:45am, FCE, Metacomet Trail, Tariffville We will hike from the dirt Road at Wintonbury Road to the Bartlett Tower ruins and Mountain Road in Tariffville. Meet in Simsbury at Mall Way to car pool. Traveling N on 10/202, Mall Way is reached by turning right off 10/202 onto Drake Hill Rd, which is the first right after you cross Rt 167. Take first L onto Iron Horse Blvd and then a quick L onto Mall Way. We will hike the Blue trail to Mountain Road and return on the Yellow trail. Hike will be approx 4 miles and we should finish before 12. Reference: CWB pg 170. L: Jerry Marcum Jerry@cthikes.com Thursday, April 14, 8:45am, FCE, Tunxis Trail, New Hartford Meet at Ski Sundown to car pool to Rte 219 trailhead. Go W on Rt 44 in Canton and then New Hartford. R at Rt 219. Go 1.5 miles to R on Ratlum Road. Go 0.5 miles to the Ski Sundown parking area. If gate is closed, can open it. We will need to close the gate when we depart after hiking. We will hike the Tunxis Trail from Rt 219 in New Hartford with views of Lake McDonough and Barkhamsted Reservoir. The hike will be 4.3 miles and we expect to finish before 12. Hike Metacomet Trail to Heublein Tower. Return via trail that leads to Life Star Helicopter landing area. L: Jerry Marcum, Jerry@cthikes.com 860 810 0087 Thursday April 28, 8:45 am, FCE - Breezy Hill Farm Loop, Canton We will be hiking 2 - 2 1/2 hours on several Canton Land Trust properties that encircle the Breezy Hill Farm. Meet at the Sun, Wind, and Woodland property parking lot. Take Route 44 past the Saybrook Fish House toward New Hartford. R onto Indian Hill Rd. until it ends. R on Breezy Hill Road. Go to the top of the hill past the red house on the left, and the Sun, Wind, and Woodland parking lot will be on your left with a big yellow sign and a kiosk. We will hike the Sun, Wind, and Woodland property, the Sweeton Trail, and the Breezy Hill Farm. Reference: Canton Land Trust. Very limited parking along roadside. Hikers from Farmington, Canton, Avon and Burlington should meet at the Canton Commuter Lot (on Rt. 179 just N of Rt. 44). Carpools will leave there at 8:30. Hikers from the Simsbury area are encouraged to form carpools as well. The hike will take between 2 and 2 1/2 hours. Reference: click here. We will hike about 6 miles so pack lunch, snacks, water, etc., and anticipate returning about mid-afternoon. Reference: CWB-East pp. 185-9. We will then car pool and drive a mile to Pine Mt Rd and start the approx 4.2 miles hike of the Tunxis trail and Pine Mt. To reach Legeyt Rd, take Rt 44 to Canton and follow Rt 179 North past Rt 309. After the intersection of 179 and 219, stay on 179N and in approx 1.1 mile take a Right at Legeyt Rd. We will meet there. Car pooling is suggested. Parking is limited. We will carpool to Onion Mountain, 3 miles north on W Mountain Rd. to hike about 4 miles on the yellow, red and orange trails; then will carpool back for our season-ending luncheon.
