Please call FCE at 860-404-0290 and register for Course #11FNAT102 "Hikes", or click here to enroll on-line. Distances will be about 4 - 6 miles, with back-to-cars goal before 12:30pm. Also see Hiking Notes. First Hike: Roaring Brook Nature Center Meet at Nature Center, 70 Gracey Road, Canton, CT. Hike 4 1/2 plus miles. Terrain: Moderate with some climbs. This will be a great first of the season hike. The leader has contacted Jay Kaplan, Roaring Brook Nature Center Manager. Prior to starting our hike, Mr. Kaplan will provide the FCE Hiking Class a 10-15 minute talk about R.B.N.C. Granby Postponed to Nov. 10 due to weather conditionsPeak Mountain and the Metacomet trail from Suffield to E Granby. Meet at 8:30 at the Rt 20 and Newgate Rd trailhead, which is 0.7 mile W of E Granby center on Rt 20 (Turkey Hill Rd). Park on Newgate Road, which will be a left turn if you are traveling W on Rt 20. We will carpool to Rt 168 in Suffield and hike back to the Newgate trailhead. Hike is 5 miles with moderate difficulty and should take approx 3+ hours. Beautiful views of the Metacomet Ridge and Manituck Mountain and the Litchfield Hills. Note: for this hike we will meet at 8:30 and drive to the starting location to start the hike at 8:45. View W Simsbury Shopping Ctr in a larger map Thursday, September 29, 8:45am, FCE, Masters School, West Simsbury Postponed to Nov. 17 due to weather.Meet at the West Simsbury Shopping Center on Farms Village Rd (Rte. 309). From Farmington and points South, take Rte. 167 N to Stratton Brook Rd. Go L and continue to the light at Farms Village Rd. Go L and the shopping center is on your right. We will car pool to the School and hike the red, white and blue trails. Hike is moderately difficult and 4+ miles with excellent views of West Simsbury and beyond.
